Welcome to the Wellspring…

The Wellspring is an experiment. It is a gathering of people whose desire is to explore the gritty, real and authentic side of community. It is intentional community of faith based artists and dreamers located near Nashville, TN. It is a cyber-meeting of the broken and searching. It is a place to drink deep, to be filled, to give back, to serve.

It is a starting point for many, a resting place for some, a springboard for others and a safeplace for all.

You can find additional information about our community on the links below:

  • About The Wellspring – This page catalogs the ongoing development of the community at The Wellspring.
  • Church Musings are more meditations and prayerful explorations than a treatise or manifesto. Thoughts and ponderings here may emerge more as poetry and stream of consciousness, non fiction more than scholastic reporting of observed and formulated phenomenon. They are mostly birthed out of a heartfelt engagement of what it means to be friends with God. What does that friendship look like? How do I know God and share that friendship with others? Although the musings may seem unrelated they are connected much like a tapestry from the underside perspective. Over time I am sure that their purpose and meaning will emerge but in the meantime they are simply letters to our friends. Enjoy.

    Dear Fellow Journeyers,

We are contacting you because it looks like we might be walking along similar paths and having the same kinds of conversations.

We have been laboring in a home-based fellowship in the Dallas, Texas area (no Jessica Simpson jokes, please!) for the last 4 years after having left the confines of more traditional evangelical churches for the warmth and safety of our Living Room. Shortly after we embarked on this journey, we discovered we were not alone in believing that our God really is good and really is love and really doesn’t mind us asking questions.

We have also been working for quite some time in the independent film industry. A short while back, we helped write and produce an action film called Red Ridge (http://www.redridgethemovie.com/).

We had a lot of fun. We learned a lot. And we won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature at the New York International Independent Film Festival: (http://www.nyfilmvideo.com/2007/la-september/awards/la-september-2007-awards.htm)

Our next project is going to be called The Gospel Truth. It is an irreverent yet inspirational comedy/mockumentary told from the perspective of a Bible College student who finds out the Lord works in VERY mysterious and surprising ways.

Our script is beautiful and funny and definitely outside of the box. It will surely create controversy as well as critical acclaim. Using humor (such as a montage of well known actors auditioning for the role of Jesus and being turned down for not looking Jewish enough) and a compelling storyline, The Gospel Truth will reach out to those who feel abandoned by traditional church theology, such as the gay and lesbian communities, and let them know they have never been abandoned by God.

First and foremost, we are asking for prayer. We know we are going to catch some flak due to the message and content of this film: too Christian on some fronts and not Christian, or at least not “family friendly” enough, on other fronts. This is also creating some difficulties raising the funds needed for production from traditional sources.

That’s why we’re reaching out to like-minded believers throughout the country: if each person with an interest in reaching the culture through the medium of film with a message of God’s abundant love would donate 33.3 cents, we’d have the money we need in no time. No, really, we mean it! With the documentary style of our film, we’re able to keep our costs down and even pennies per person will make a huge difference.

So we invite you to visit our website http://www.onedoorproductions.com where you can view the synopsis of the film and quite literally put in your two cents worth.

Perhaps, if you feel our cause is worthy, you’ll pass this info on to folks you know or at least direct them to our website. But regardless… please do keep us in your prayers!

Thank you and may God richly bless you,
Jay Shirtz (Writer/Co-Director) and Jeff Niems (Writer/Producer)
